The team behind the guidance.

Plantwise guides are prepared by the editorial team to a documented process and checked by named reviewers when a documented review is complete. We keep the team structure visible so readers know who is accountable for each guide, and we only display a reviewer credit when that review has actually been completed and documented.

How the team works

Separate roles, shared standard.

Every published guide passes through distinct responsibilities rather than a single unchecked draft. Writing and review are separated on purpose: the person who drafts a guide is not the person who signs off on it. This separation is what makes a reviewer credit meaningful — when you see a reviewer named on a guide, a different person with the relevant expertise actually checked it.

No individual is presented as a credentialed expert unless a named, documented review has taken place. Guides that have not yet completed review are attributed to the editorial team and carry no reviewer credit, so the presence or absence of a name always tells you something true about the guide.

Editorial leadSets the specific question each guide answers, plans the structure, assigns the writer and reviewer, and makes the final publication call once review and fact-checking are complete.

WritersDraft guidance in plain language, grounded in the observations a home grower can safely make. Guide bylines currently sit with the Plantwise Editorial Team; contributor profiles below introduce the writers we work with.

Horticultural reviewersCheck care, safety, and problem-diagnosis content before publication. Reviewers verify that recommendations match extension and research sources and that toxicity claims are species-specific. A reviewer credit appears only when this review is documented.

Fact-checkersVerify each recommendation against the cited source, check dates, plant names, and links, and flag anything unsupported. Fact-checking runs alongside review, not as a substitute for it.

Update editorsTrack seasonal changes, source availability, and reader-reported corrections so guides stay current. Each guide has a review-due interval; overdue guides show an update flag internally until refreshed.

Who checks the guides

We only credit a named expert reviewer when a real, qualified specialist has completed and documented that review. Until such reviewers are confirmed, all guides are attributed to the Plantwise Editorial Team, and the review trail stays visible on the review board page.

Sources and review

What we rely on.

Priority sources include university cooperative-extension programs, botanical gardens, government agencies, professional horticultural associations, and peer-reviewed literature. Sources are linked directly on each guide so readers can verify the evidence themselves.

When a guide carries a separate expert review credit, that review was completed and documented by the named reviewer. Otherwise guidance is attributed to the Plantwise editorial team, and the absence of a reviewer name means the documented review has not yet been completed for that guide.

AI and content

How we use tools.

Plantwise may use tools to help with structure, formatting, and internal link suggestions, but every published guide is prepared and checked to our documented editorial process. We do not publish unedited machine-generated content, and we do not invent expert quotes, test results, or reviewer credits.

Plant toxicity conclusions, pest diagnoses, and treatment steps are never based on automated output alone — they are checked against cited sources and, where a guide carries a reviewer credit, by the named specialist.
