How review works
Plantwise separates writing from review. A writer drafts a guide grounded in observable plant signals and cited sources. A reviewer then checks the horticultural accuracy, the diagnosis logic, or the toxicity claims — depending on the guide type — before publication. The reviewer’s name appears on the guide only when that review is complete.
Reviewers do not rubber-stamp drafts. They verify that each care recommendation matches what the plant actually needs in its native or cultivated conditions, that each diagnosis distinguishes the likely cause from lookalikes, and that every toxicity claim is tied to a checked, species-specific source. When a claim cannot be supported, the guide says so plainly rather than guessing.
Reviews are documented internally with the sources checked, the changes requested, and the date completed. Readers see the reviewer’s name and a link to their background on every reviewed guide. Unreviewed guides are attributed to the editorial team and clearly do not carry a reviewer credit.
Review scope by guide type
Each reviewer covers a defined scope, so the right expertise is matched to the right content:
- Houseplant care guides — light, water, soil, humidity, and repotting are reviewed for horticultural accuracy against extension and research sources.
- Problem and pest guides — symptom descriptions, causal chains, and treatment steps are reviewed for biological accuracy and indoor safety.
- Garden plant profiles — site selection, hardiness suitability, mature-size planning, and pruning timing are reviewed for outdoor accuracy.
- Toxicity and pet safety — every plant profile’s pet-safety claim is reviewed species-by-species against ASPCA and botanical-source data.
Product roundups and commercial content are not reviewed by the horticulture board; they follow a separate editorial and affiliate-disclosure process described on the editorial process page.
Corrections policy
Even reviewed guides can become outdated or contain an error. Each guide shows its last-updated date. If you find a factual issue, a broken source, or a safety concern, email corrections@plantwise.top with the page URL and the passage in question.
Material corrections are reviewed by the editorial team and, where the issue concerns care, diagnosis, or toxicity, by a board reviewer. We update the guide, refresh the update date, and keep a record of the change. When a correction is substantial, we note it on the page so readers can see what changed and why.
